North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences - The new North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences opened its doors to the public Friday, April 7, 2000. Four floors of exhibits include four great whales, the world's only Acrocanthosaurus and Willo, the dinosaur with a heart!

SciWorks - At SciWorks, it's fun to learn about science. Travel through the solar system under the dome of a state-of-the-art planetarium. North Carolina Botanical Garden - The North Carolina Botanical Garden, first opened to the public in 1966, is part of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The Garden's display collections, Piedmont Nature Trails, Coker Arboretum, Mason Farm Biological Reserve and other lands comprise nearly 600 acres.


Hiddenite Center

The Hiddenite Center, Incorporated is a folk life and cultural arts educational and exhibition center located in Hiddenite, North Carolina. A three-story Victorian house has been restored to house galleries and offices.

McDowell Nature Center and Preserve

McDowell Nature Center serves as the gateway to the 1108-acre McDowell Nature Preserve and is the source for educational programs and information on the preserve's natural communities, flora, and fauna.  The preserve, the oldest in Mecklenburg County, has been left 90% undeveloped and protects mostly forested, rolling terrain along the banks of Lake Wylie.

McDowell Nature Center and Nature Preserve is located at 15222 York Road in southwestern Mecklenburg County.


North Carolina Museum of History
